SCA launches a new era in engaging content

We were lucky enough to be invited along to the Southern Cross Austereo ‘SCA Engage’ event last night – and boy, did we underestimate the fabulous-ness they had planned!

Long gone was the format of a traditional media showcase, with a ‘special guest’ East Coast presenter pretending to understand the WA market by politely giggling at the locals’ jokes, followed by a showreel of big booming content and promises of ‘the best year EVERRRR’.

The night was well-planned, well-executed and suitably impressive. Each speaker at the event was engaging and clearly passionate about their role within the business, and clearly conveyed their loyalty to the brand, as well as the excitement for the year ahead.

Most impressive was an in-depth presentation from Director of Digital and Innovation, Clive Dickens, on how SCA is leading the way in the social media arena, presenting a bunch of impressive facts, figures and examples of original content that has taken the world by storm – literally! One meme featuring The Obama’s (“When your wife says switch seats…” view it here) that was created in QLD has been viewed over 12 million times in Australia, and also featured in the US Media.

We were joined by the Mix breakfast team, Clairsy, Shane, Kimba and (my all time favourite radio presenter) Captain Paul, as well as Lisa and the legendary Fred Botica from the new drive time slot on Mix 94.5. New talent to the 92.9 brekkie show, Heidi, Will and Woody, were surprisingly engaging, with a strong rapport and essence of fun that has been lacking from the station for some time. Also there was the beautiful Didier Cohen from Australia’s Next Top Model, and FringeWorld sell-out cabaret performers, BRIEFS, who provided a pre-show entertainment mix of acrobatics, personality and all round fabulousness – PLUS gave the audience a preview of their amazing show with Fergie’s “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” (terrible grammar, amazing song!) Fremantle success story, Eskimo Joe, rounded off a spectacular evening of entertainment with acoustic versions of their hits, ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’ and ‘From the Sea.’

Southern Cross Austereo yesterday unveiled its new vision for 2014 at the highly successful launch event ‘SCA Engage’ at Perth’s Heath Ledger Theatre.

The event officially launched both SCA’s exciting new content line-up at a national level and showcased Perth stations, mix94.5 and 92.9, both of which have new breakfast shows that launched late last year.

The event saw key stakeholders, clients, media agencies and talent, including Perth’s Number One commercial breakfast show, Clairsy, Shane and Kymba and new kids on the block 92.9’s Heidi, Will and Woody, celebrating a new era for the company.

The cocktail party was held on the stage of the Heath Ledger Theatre and the crowd was entertained by Eskimo Joe, Fringe sensation Briefs and Australia’s Next Top Model judge Didier Cohen spiced up the evening with a DJ set.

As well as the local shows, SCA showcased an impressive new line-up across its national radio networks, regional television and digital assets, reinforcing that it remains the most innovative media company in Australia, with an ongoing commitment to delivering firsts in entertainment media solutions.

In 2014, SCA will have a sustained focus on delivering progressive and engaging entertainment media solutions, excellence and expertise in content creation, compelling and inclusive client solutions, unique innovation (social, mobile, data and partnerships) and original thinking.

Chief Executive Officer Rhys Holleran said, “We are thrilled with the reaction of key stakeholders to our plans for 2014. With great new shows and proud partners, we look forward to 2014 being a great year.”
